The Montana State Bobcats bring a century of basketball tradition to the Big Sky Conference, playing home games at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman. Home to one of the sport's early legendary teams, the Bobcats have carried a fast-paced, attacking style since the earliest days of college basketball.
Montana State University was founded in 1893 and began varsity basketball in 1902. The 'Golden Bobcats' of the late 1920s, led by Cat Thompson and John 'Brick' Breeden, were among the first teams in the country to popularize the fast break and were retroactively recognized as national champions for the 1928-29 season by the Helms Athletic Foundation. Montana State was a charter member of the Big Sky Conference in 1963 and won the league's first-ever basketball championship in 1963-64. The Bobcats have not won a modern-era NCAA Division I title.
