The Longwood Lancers represent Longwood University in the small college town of Farmville, Virginia, playing home games at the Joan Perry Brock Center. One of the newer success stories in the Big South, Longwood transformed from Division I independent to conference contender in just over a decade, and now regularly threatens for NCAA Tournament bids. The Lancers bring an energetic, close-campus atmosphere to a program on a clear upward trajectory.
Longwood's basketball roots go back to the 1970s, but the program spent years bouncing between conferences and independent status before joining the Big South in 2012. The Lancers broke through in 2021-22, posting the Big South's best record and winning the program's first conference tournament title for its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. Longwood returned to the tournament again in 2024, beating Winthrop, top-seeded High Point, and UNC Asheville to capture a second Big South tournament crown in three seasons.
