North Texas Mean Green

North Texas fielded its first football team in 1913 as North Texas State Normal College and has since won 26 conference championships across a wide range of leagues — the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Lone Star Conference, Gulf Coast Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Southland Conference, and four straight Sun Belt titles from 2001 to 2004. The Mean Green joined Conference USA in 2013 before moving to the American Athletic Conference in 2023. North Texas has never won a major national championship but boasts one of the deepest conference title trophy cases in college football.
