The Central Michigan Chippewas play Mid-American Conference football at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant. A program with a Division II national championship pedigree from the 1970s, Central Michigan has remained one of the MAC's more consistent winners since moving up to the top level of college football.
Central Michigan's football program was founded in 1896 and won the 1974 NCAA Division II national championship, defeating Delaware 54-14. The Chippewas joined the Mid-American Conference in 1975 and have since claimed seven MAC championships, most recently in 2009, building a reputation as one of the conference's steadiest programs.
