History & Legacy
Eastern Michigan's football program was founded in 1891 and has been a full Mid-American Conference member since 1971. The Eagles' only MAC championship came in 1987, when the team upset a heavily favored San Jose State squad in the California Bowl. Eastern Michigan previously won conference titles in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1896 and 1925.
