South Carolina State Bulldogs

South Carolina State Bulldogs football is the flagship program of the MEAC, having produced more conference championships than any other member school. Playing out of Orangeburg, the Bulldogs have sent four alumni to the Pro Football Hall of Fame - Harry Carson, Deacon Jones, Marion Motley and Donnie Shell - a lineage matched by few HBCU programs. SC State's championship pedigree, including seven NCAA-recognized Black college national titles, cements it as one of the most successful FCS-level programs in the country.

SC State played its first known intercollegiate football game in 1907 and became a charter MEAC member in 1970 after years in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs have since won a league-record 19 MEAC titles, from a run of championships across the 1970s and 80s through a modern haul in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. Along the way, SC State has been recognized with an NCAA Black college football national championship seven times. The program's Hall of Fame alumni base underscores decades of producing pro-caliber talent.
