The San Diego State Aztecs are a longtime power at the top of the Mountain West, playing home games at Snapdragon Stadium after decades at the old Qualcomm/SDCCU Stadium site. Built on Don Coryell's revolutionary passing attack in the 1960s and 70s, the Aztecs have racked up 21 conference championships across their history in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, WAC and Mountain West. SDSU's blend of Southern California recruiting and consistent bowl appearances has made it one of the region's flagship programs.
San Diego State began play in 1921 and moved through several Southern California conferences before becoming a charter member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association in 1969. Under coach Don Coryell, the Aztecs won seven conference titles and two undefeated 'small college' seasons (1966, 1968), while also winning their first major bowl game in 1969. The program has continued to add conference championships through its Mountain West era, for a total of 21 in program history.
