The LIU Sharks represent Long Island University's unified Division I athletics program, formed in 2019 from the merger of the school's Brooklyn and Post (Brookville) campuses. Competing in the Northeast Conference at the FCS level, the Sharks are still a young program in their current form, building an identity from scratch even though football has deep roots at LIU's legacy campuses. Navy and gold, the Sharks represent one of FCS football's newest, still-developing programs.
Football has a long history at LIU's predecessor campuses — the LIU Post program won numerous Division II conference titles over the decades — but the current unified LIU Sharks football program only began competing at the FCS level in 2019 after the Brooklyn and Post athletic departments merged. The Sharks inherited Northeast Conference membership from the Brooklyn campus and have not yet won a conference championship under the unified Sharks banner.
