Overview
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels play at Roy Kidd Stadium in Richmond, Kentucky, named for the legendary coach who built one of the FCS level's all-time great programs. Maroon and white, Eastern Kentucky is the winningest program in Ohio Valley Conference history and remains one of FCS football's genuine dynasties from the 1970s-80s, now competing in the United Athletic Conference.
History & Legacy
Eastern Kentucky first fielded football in 1906, three years before the university's official founding. Across a 73-year run in the Ohio Valley Conference through 2020, the Colonels won a league-record 21 conference championships, along with two Division I-AA (now FCS) national titles in 1979 and 1982. The bulk of that success came under Roy Kidd, whose name now adorns the team's home stadium and whose tenure remains the gold standard for OVC football.
