The Jacksonville State Gamecocks play at AmFirst Stadium in Jacksonville, Alabama, a program that climbed from Division II power to FBS Conference USA member in just a few decades. Red and white, Jax State carries one of the most decorated championship histories in all of small-college football, and has translated that success into a rapid rise up the divisional ladder culminating in a 2023 jump to FBS.
Jacksonville State first fielded a football team in 1904 and became known as the Fighting Gamecocks starting in 1947. The program dominated Division II as a Gulf South Conference charter member, winning 25 conference championships overall and capturing the 1992 NCAA Division II national title. After moving to Division I FCS in 1995 and later FBS, the Gamecocks joined Conference USA in 2023, extending a tradition of overachievement into college football's top tier.
