The Ole Miss Rebels play at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, where the pregame Grove tailgating scene has become one of the most famous traditions in all of college sports. Red and blue, Ole Miss built its national reputation during the Johnny Vaught coaching era of the mid-20th century and has continued to produce SEC-caliber talent and occasional championship-contending teams ever since. The Grove's tailgating culture and the program's classic-Southern-football aesthetic make Oxford one of the SEC's signature Saturday destinations.
Ole Miss played its first football game in 1893 and reached its competitive peak under coach Johnny Vaught, who took over in 1947 and led the Rebels to national prominence over the next 24 years. Ole Miss was recognized as a national champion in 1959, 1960, and 1962 by various selectors, with the 1962 team remaining the only undefeated squad in program history, though the NCAA formally recognizes only the 1960 claim among major selectors. The Rebels have won six SEC championships, most recently in 1963.
