The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks bring East Texas pride to the Southland Conference, playing their home games at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches. Known for gritty, physical football and a deep well of program history, the Lumberjacks have built one of the region's most enduring FCS traditions. SFA's purple and white colors and lumberjack identity make it one of the more distinctive brands in Southland football.
Stephen F. Austin fielded its first football team in 1923 and has competed continuously since resuming play after World War II in 1946. The Lumberjacks have won seven conference championships across four different leagues, including Southland titles in 1989, 1999, 2009, and 2010. SFA reached the FCS playoffs in 2009, its first postseason trip since 1995, and rejoined the Southland Conference in 2024 after a brief conference realignment detour.
