Syracuse won its only consensus national championship in 1959, finishing 11-0 under coach Ben Schwartzwalder and capping the season with a Cotton Bowl win over Texas, powered by sophomore star Ernie Davis, who two years later became the first Black player to win the Heisman Trophy. The program produced other legendary backs, including Jim Brown and Floyd Little. Syracuse joined the Big East before moving to the ACC in 2013.
