Alcorn State Braves

The Alcorn State Braves represent one of the SWAC's most tradition-rich programs, playing their home games at Jack Spinks Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi. Purple and gold run deep at Alcorn, a school with a legacy of producing pro-caliber talent from a small-town campus. The Braves are known for tough, physical football and a proud alumni base anchored by NFL Hall of Famer Steve McNair. Alcorn's football tradition punches well above the size of its student body.

Alcorn State football began in 1921 and joined the SWAC in 1962. The program's defining era came under legendary head coach Marino Casem, who led the Braves from 1964 to 1985 and delivered Black college national championships in 1968, 1969, 1974, and 1984. Alcorn has won thirteen SWAC championships overall, including a three-peat from 2013 to 2015. Steve McNair, who starred at Alcorn before a decorated NFL career, remains the program's most famous alumnus.
