Georgia Southern Eagles

The Georgia Southern Eagles bring one of college football's great FCS dynasties into the Sun Belt, playing home games at Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro. Blue and white Eagles teams won an FCS-record haul of national titles under legendary coach Erk Russell before the program moved up to FBS. Georgia Southern's option-heavy football tradition and passionate fan base have made it one of the Sun Belt's proudest programs. The Eagles remain a perennial Sun Belt East contender.

Georgia Southern first fielded football continuously starting in 1924, with play suspended during World War II before resuming in 1981. Under coach Erk Russell, the Eagles won six FCS (I-AA) national championships (1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1999, 2000) and finished national runner-up twice more (1988, 1998). Georgia Southern competed in the Southern Conference from 1993-2013 before moving to the Sun Belt Conference and FBS in 2014.
