North Alabama Lions

The North Alabama Lions built one of Division II's true dynasties in Florence before climbing to the FCS ranks as part of the United Athletic Conference. Known for a golden era of dominance in the 1990s, UNA carries one of the most decorated small-college pedigrees in the sport, backed by a fiercely loyal Shoals-area fanbase.

The Lions' modern program was revived in 1949 under Hal Self, who won 109 games over two decades. The Bobby Wallace era of the 1990s produced three consecutive NCAA Division II national championships in 1993, 1994, and 1995, making North Alabama the first program in NCAA scholarship football history to win three straight titles. The Lions have also claimed 12 Gulf South Conference championships, the most in league history, before moving to Division I FCS and the United Athletic Conference.
