Duquesne Dukes football is an FCS program based in Pittsburgh, competing at the Division I level with a long, if intermittent, history dating back to the late 19th century. The Dukes have built recent success at the conference level as a modern FCS program. The team represents a smaller-scale but historic piece of Pittsburgh's football tradition.
Duquesne first fielded football in 1891 and enjoyed a strong run in the 1930s under standout talent, before the program cycled through club and Division III status for decades. Duquesne returned to Division I FCS in 1993 and has won conference titles and made multiple FCS playoff appearances since, including NEC championship bids in 2015, 2018, and 2023.
