UMass Minutemen

UMass Minutemen football plays at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Massachusetts, competing as an FBS independent after a long history at the FCS level. The Minutemen carry a resilient identity, having navigated a difficult transition to major college football's top tier. UMass remains one of the toughest jobs in FBS due to its lack of a conference home, but the program continues chasing a return to consistent bowl contention.

UMass has played football since 1879 and won the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA (FCS) national championship, its high point as a program. UMass transitioned to FBS in 2012, spent several seasons as a MAC associate member through 2015, and has competed largely as an independent since — with a planned return to full MAC membership in 2025. The program has not won an FBS-level championship.
