Memphis football began in 1912, but the program's golden era arrived under coach Justin Fuente in the mid-2010s, when the Tigers strung together conference titles and produced quarterback Paxton Lynch. Mike Norvell continued that success, and Memphis has remained one of the AAC's most reliable contenders into the 2020s. The Tigers have never claimed a national championship but have become a fixture in the conference title conversation.
