Sacramento State Hornets

The Sacramento State Hornets have built one of the Big Sky Conference's most successful recent programs, playing home games at Hornet Stadium in California's capital city. Entering a new era with a move to the Mid-American Conference and the FBS ranks, the Hornets carry momentum from a stretch as one of FCS football's most consistent winners.

Sacramento State fielded its first football team in 1954. After decades of conference realignment, the Hornets found sustained success in the Big Sky Conference, winning seven conference championships overall, including three straight from 2019 to 2022 and a school-record 12-win season in 2022. Sacramento State begins competing as a Mid-American Conference football member starting in 2026.
