Mexico, known as El Tri for their green, white, and red, are the dominant force of CONCACAF and one of the most consistently qualified nations in World Cup history. Backed by one of football's most fervent fanbases and the iconic Estadio Azteca, El Tri combine flair, attacking tradition, and remarkable tournament regularity. Mexico have appeared at 17 World Cups and reached the quarterfinals twice, both as hosts, in 1970 and 1986 — their best results. The Azteca is the only stadium to host two World Cup finals, in 1970 and 1986. For a remarkable seven straight tournaments from 1994 to 2018, El Tri reached the round of 16 only to fall at that hurdle each time, a pattern fans dubbed the 'quinto partido' curse.
