Finland's Leijonat (Lions) have grown from perennial bridesmaids into one of the sport's true powerhouses. Known for structured, defensively sound hockey and a deep pipeline of NHL-caliber talent, the Finns have turned consistency into championships. Their blue-and-white jerseys are now a fixture atop the medal podium rather than just in contention for it. Few programs have improved their international standing as dramatically over the past three decades.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association was founded in 1929. Finland broke through for its first IIHF World Championship gold in 1995, beating Sweden in the final, and has since added titles in 2011, 2019, and 2022. The program has produced a steady stream of NHL stars, from Teemu Selänne and Saku Koivu to Mikko Rantanen and Patrik Laine. Finland's rise into a multi-time champion reflects one of international hockey's most successful long-term development systems.
