LeBron Reaches 40,000: Today in Sports History

On March 2nd, 2024, LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer hit a layup with 10:40 remaining in the 2nd quarter to surpass 40,000, as LeBron’s Lakers fell to the Denver Nuggets 124-114. Unsurprisingly, LeBron remains the only player today to have surpassed 40,000, 41,000, 42,000, and most recently 43,000 career points scored. The next highest scoring active player is Kevin Durant with over 32,000 points, sitting close behind Michael Jordan’s career total of 32,292.
