History & Legacy
Founded in 1946 as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, the franchise won its only NBA championship in 1958 in St. Louis behind Bob Pettit. Dominique Wilkins defined the Atlanta era in the 1980s, and the Hawks reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015 and 2021. Atlanta returned to the 2026 playoffs as a No. 6 seed and pushed the eventual champion Knicks six games in the first round before bowing out.
