The Tennessee Titans carry forward the legacy of the Houston Oilers, one of the American Football League's original franchises, now playing at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The Titans are best known to modern fans for the 'Music City Miracle' and a memorable run to Super Bowl XXXIV, falling agonizingly short of the franchise's first Super Bowl title. Navy, red, and Titan blue have come to represent a franchise built on physical, run-first football and a passionate Nashville fanbase. The team's history spans two cities and two league eras, giving it a uniquely deep AFL heritage.
The franchise began play in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, a charter member of the American Football League founded by Bud Adams, and won the league's first two championships in 1960 and 1961 behind quarterback George Blanda. The Oilers joined the NFL in the 1970 merger, and after relocating to Nashville in 1997 the franchise was renamed the Tennessee Titans in 1999. The Titans reached Super Bowl XXXIV that same season, falling one yard short of forcing overtime against the St. Louis Rams, and have not won an NFL or Super Bowl-era championship since the franchise's AFL days.
