If Johan Rojas' suspension is upheld, the Phillies should be ready to face the music. Since the turn of the 21st century and the continued crackdown on PED usage in baseball, players still try to find ways to get the upper hand. Often, the league will find individuals acting on their own and hand them suspensions with precedents laid out before them. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. But how often are multiple players implicated? Whether connected or not, when a team faces multiple PED suspensions in a single calendar year, it raises eyebrows. There are 14 teams who have had two or more of these suspensions take place in a calendar year. Here are the teams and the players involved: Atlanta Braves - Jurickson Profar makes the Braves the most recent addition to this list. March 2025 and March 2026. Baltimore Orioles - Troy Patton got implicated in Dec. 2013, followed by Chris Davis in Sept. 2014. Cleveland Guardians - If you want to make the argument that they shouldn't be here because Marlon Byrd was a Free Agent when he got suspended, I can get behind that. Still, Cleveland was his most recent team, and both he and Abraham Almonte got suspended in 2016. Detroit Tigers - Neifi Perez was a repeat offender in July and August of 2007. Houston Astros - I know this might come as a shock to some, but Houston has cheated again since 2017. Francis Martes got rung up in March 2019 and Feb. 2020. Kansas City Royals - Jorge Bonifacio in March 2018, and Eric Skoglund in Jan. 2019. Milwaukee Brewers - Pedro Severino in April 2022, and J.C. Meija in May 2022. New York Mets - One of the most interesting teams on this list, the Mets had three players implicated between October 2005 and November 2006, so this is technically two separate instances of 2+ suspensions in a calendar year. Those three were Felix Heredia (Oct 2005), Yusaku Iriki (Apr 2006), and Guillermo Mota (Nov 2006). Additionally, Jenrry Mejia got suspended three times from April 2015 through Feb. 2016, earning a ban from organized baseball. New York Yankees - Along with Alex Rodriguez, Francisco Cervelli was also handed a suspension on August 5th, 2013. Philadelphia Phillies - Similar to the Mets, they have two separate occurrences between June 2012 and Aug. 2013. Freddy Galvis, Carlos Ruiz (wrongly accused in Nov. 2012), and Antonio Bastardo round out this trifecta. But, PED suspensions came back to Philly in 2016, claiming Daniel Stumpf in April and Alec Asher in June. However, the Phillies are the only team to have faced this situation a third time. Jose Alvarado was suspended in May 2025, and Max Kepler (another free agent) was given his suspension in January 2026. If Rojas' suspension is upheld, then it would be three different players in a single calendar year, which only one other team has faced. San Diego Padres - Similar to the Mets trifecta. Yasmani Grandal in Nov. 2012, Everth Cabrera in Aug. 2013, and Cameron Maybin in July 2014. San Francisco Giants - Guillermo Mota is back! Nearly six years later and he gets popped again in May 2012. Melky Cabrera followed suit that August. Seattle Mariners - The only other team to face three different player suspensions. Jamal Strong started off in April 2005, with Ryan Franklin getting caught in August and Mike Morse in September. Texas Rangers - Augustin Montero was suspended in April 2005, and Carlos Almanzar joined him six months later. Remember kids, doping doesn't necessarily make you better at baseball. Just look at Max Kepler and Johan Rojas!
