On March 10th, 2022, Major League Baseball and MLB Players Association reach a new collective bargaining agreement after a 99-day lockout. The ninth work stoppage in MLB history began at 12:01 a.m. on December 2nd, 2021 after MLB owners unanimously voted to enact a lockout with the expiration of the 2016 collective bargaining agreement. The provisions agreed to on this day in history were as follows: - Designated Hitter introduced in the National League - Postseason expanded to 12 teams from 10 - Luxury tax thresholds were risen - A draft lottery is introduced to the MLB draft - $50 million per-arbitration bonus pool - Allowed ads on uniforms and helmets - Game 163 tiebreaker eliminated - Joint Competition Committee formed for rule changes - MLB minimum salary increased from $575.5k to $700k and increases by $20k each year The CBA was set to last for five years. It will expire December 1st, 2026.
