Tom Landry Fired: Today in Sports History

On February 25th, 1989, Jerry Jones fired long-time Cowboys' head coach Tom Landry after a 29-year career in Dallas. Jones made the decision on his first day of owning the Cowboys, inheriting a team that just finished three-straight losing seasons. Landry finished his long career with exactly 250 regular season wins, 5 NFC Championships, and 2 Super Bowls on his way into the Hall of Fame. However, Landry hadn't returned to the Super Bowl since the 1978 season, a decade without an opportunity for immortality. Jones then hired his former college roommate Jimmy Johnson to replace him, and they did alright in Dallas together for a bit, I guess.
