On April 24th, 2022, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber finally had enough of Angel Hernandez's terrible calls behind the plate. In the bottom of the ninth inning down 1-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers, Schwarber worked into a full count against reliever Josh Hader. The 3-2 pitch was low and away, with Schwarber beginning his walk to first as Hernandez called strike 3 on the pitch. Enraged, Schwarber slammed his bat down with both hands, tossing his helmet as he turned back to Hernandez to give him a piece of his mind. "You've been fucking horseshit the whole game," he began, then gesturing to each side of the plate, missing outside, missing inside, and missing high. "Fucking... for both sides! It's fucked," he exclaimed, walking off in frustration. Obviously, he had been ejected by Hernandez. Phillies manager Joe Girardi replaced Schwarber in his steed to give Hernandez some gentler words of advice, but Schwarber wasn't finished, turning back from his dugout walk. "The whole fucking night, the whole night! Both sides, it's fucking horseshit! Thirty calls! Thirty calls!" Data from the game shows that Angel missed 19 calls during that game, which might not quite be 30, but it's a lot closer to 30 than any MLB umpire has any right to be. Milwaukee held on to win the ballgame, 1-0. Quotes from Jomboy Media's breakdown of the incident.
