This was a strange one. By the most basic definition, this was a close game. Arizona thrashed the Cougars early on, but Houston made it a game by the end of the 1st half and it took about 5 minutes to make it a 1-point game. The big problem with that logic is it ignores the fact that Arizona was never in any true danger. Sure, Houston held the lead at one point and Arizona’s lead never got bigger than 10, but Houston’s shooting percentages are putrid by any standard. Flemings was alright, but nobody else on Houston had a good game by my estimation. It’s honestly surprising it took a late Dell’Orso surge to decide this one. If anything, I’d expect this to be a double digit win. It only wasn’t because of Houston’s stingy defense. Defense wins championships but you eventually need some offense. Kharchrenkov sounds like he should be playing hockey instead of basketball. In spite of that, kid had a good game. Just solid, as was most of the Wildcats. Still pretty good overall.
