“A truly unexpected pitchers duel. If I told you that the Reds and Phillies would be in a pitchers duel where both pitchers threw 7 shutout innings, you probably would've thought it was Zack Wheeler or Cristopher Sanchez against Chase Burns or Andrew Abbott, but no, it was Jesus Luzardo and Brady Singer. The Phillies finally got to Singer in the 8th to score 1 run, and that was all they needed. Very smart of the Phillies to take out Luzardo before he entered for the 8th inning, considering what they had just seen with Singer and the fact that his velocity had dropped significantly in the latter innings. Still, despite the struggles of the Reds hitters in this one, they managed to get JJ Bleday and Spencer Steer on base with nobody out against Jhoan Duran, arguably the best closer in baseball, but he then showed why he's in those talks, getting three straight outs and shutting them down. Just a beautiful pitchers duel and the Phillies barely sneak out a win.”
