“The peak of Tiki-Taka and Spain’s legendary golden generation ironically came in the World Cup Final that set the record for most yellow cards handed out in a Final with 14. 47 fouls were committed in this game. It’s been over a decade since I last watched this game in-full, but I’m sure you imagine all those fouls slowed this game down to a crawl, especially with the most egregious Dutch foul. I will always be baffled that Nigel De Jong didn’t get sent off after fully kicking Xabi Alonso in the chest. All that chaos didn’t mean there was nothing to look back on fondly. Iker Casillas didn’t have much to deal with thanks to Spain’s legendary midfield and defence, but when he was called on in the 2nd half to stop Robben all alone, he made the big save with his toe to keep it 0-0. Then, in the 110th minute, Fabregas gave Andres Iniesta the chance of live out a childhood dream and he buried the shot to win Spain the World Cup. A historic game with some amazing moments held back by fouls.”
