The match grew increasingly tense as extra time unfolded, culminating in one of the most unforgettable moments in football history. Suárez sacrificing himself with a red card to keep Uruguay alive. Asamoah Gyan stepped up with the hopes of an entire continent on his shoulders, but his penalty crashed off the crossbar. The shootout that followed delivered heartbreak and jubilation in equal measure, ending with Sebastián Abreu's audacious Panenka sending Uruguay through.
