“This is the kind of game that cannot be explained with the shot totals, they are lying to you. Vegas was the better team most of the way. Colorado couldn’t maintain any significant pressure nor gain momentum until the 3rd period. The Avs looked nothing like the team they were in the first two rounds. You could blame rust, but I believe the absence of Cale Makar played a bigger role. From my perspective, that reared its ugly head most in the transition game. Basically, if Colorado didn’t have firm control of the puck, it felt like they were unprepared. Their D-core kept leaving guys open and they couldn’t stop Vegas’s transition nor execute their own. Thankfully, this game finally picked up in the 3rd period. The Avs finally figured out how to score in the 3rd, eventually made it 3-2 with a couple minutes to go, setting us up for a heart-racing ending. Only for Colorado’s poor transition game (backchecking) to cost them one last time. No idea how average skater Dowd won that race. ”
