@FlameRaptorRaven's rating of Rams vs Fighting Illini

@FlameRaptorRaven rated the Rams vs Fighting Illini game 5.5 out of 10 in CBB on March 22, 2026. Final score: Rams 55 – Fighting Illini 76. R2. Fan ratings and discussion on RateGame.

Definitely a blowout, but it was close enough for long enough and had some highlights to make it entertaining. Going into this game, VCU may be the closest thing this tournament has to a Cinderella besides High Point. So of course, Nyk Lewis went down almost immediately, that was quickly followed up with Ivišić getting a 2-hand block and VCU going down 17-5 just 8 minutes in. Many teams would’ve conceded. VCU did not. After shooting 2/16, they proceeded to shoot 6/10 and tie the game with 5 minutes to go, then take their first lead with 3 minutes left. Illinois went back up 7 going into halftime, but VCU has pulled off comebacks before. No reason to think the mountain was insurmountable. Illinois ran away with this game in the 2nd half, but I think they took firm control when Ivišić blocked a poster dunk at the 5-minute mark. At that point, the Fighting Illini couldn’t be caught and they built up a lead as big as 25. A shame VCU’s run ended with a whimper. At least they embarrassed UNC
