The first football game I ever watched. Granted, my 8 year-old self had no idea what was on the line. I had only just grasped the sport of ice hockey. The main thought I remember leaving this game with was ‘those are small yards’ because I thought yard meant a backyard instead of a unit of measurement. However, all these years later, I’m glad I can say I saw this live, even though I had no idea what was happening. Everyone knows the story. The undefeated Patriots walked in poised to become the greatest team of all-time only for New York to give them a GIANT loss. Everyone talks about the Tyree plays that make this game legendary, but I think the performance of the Giants’ defense has become under-appreciated. Remember, they held arguably the best offense in NFL history to 14 points. Michael Strahan and co sacked Brady 5 times. He hadn’t been sacked more than 3 times all season long. Justin Tuck was most impressive, his 2 sacks and 2 TFLs are part of why this game remained low-scoring.
