“Despite a lack of goal scoring action in the first two thirds of the match, Sunderland and Fulham maintained a fun, fast-flowing match throughout. Sunderland's lack of defensive identity in the first week was completely banished in their return to the Stadium of Light; they showed that the grit that got them to Europe last season is still present. That being said, their continual issues with creativity in the final third cannot be understated (get Trai Hume out of that right wing spot), with their inability to consistently create goal-scoring opportunities popping up constantly – at least until Isidor saw his two chances in the final 20 minutes. One can only hope for more attacking reinforcements in the final days of the transfer window, but hopefully this match is a positive indication that the season will not punish them too harshly if they can't get more moves done.”
