“A hardwood classic that involved a legendary performance and a story out of a fairytale. This was the definition of a David and Goliath matchup. The 2001 Lakers were undefeated in the playoffs going into this matchup. They hadn’t just not lost a game, they had annihilated a stacked western conference before arriving to the Finals. Meanwhile, the 76ers had endured a struggle fest of a playoff run. They nearly got eliminated by the Raptors in round 2 in 7 and controversially beat the Bucks in 7 thanks to questionable officiating. Combine that with the David-Goliath-esque size difference between Allen Iverson and Shaq and a Lakers beat down felt inevitable. You can measure a person’s height, you cannot measure the size of their heart. Iverson put that on full display with an incredible performance, capped off with the step over Tyronn Lue. The Lakers won the next 4, but AI gave us an unforgettable performance and became the sole reason LA was denied perfection. He became a legend. ”
