“More late night World Cup action and this one was also mostly worth it as this game came down to the wire. Jordan played well for their first ever World Cup match, but it just wasn’t enough. Austria gets their first win since 1990, but don’t let the score fool you, it wasn’t easy. The first half was mostly in Austria’s favour. Granted, Jordan’s defence was formidable, not letting Austria get many good chances. Eventually, Austria found a gap and Schmid blasted a shot to the top corner to give them the lead. They continued the trends of the first half as they hung onto the possession for most of the game and Jordan was perfectly fine with that. They are a dynamic pacy team so waiting for the right counter is up their alley. Eventually, they got what they were looking for seizing the chance on the counter and Ali Owain scored Jordan’s first ever World Cup goal. A great moment, but one that was overshadowed by an Arnautovic near-goal, then an own goal he forced. Jordan never recovered. ”
