“Not a fast game, but certainly an intense one. Despite what the pick’em picks will tell you, this was a total toss up going into it and it played out like it. Australia and Egypt had their moments and although I’d say Egypt ultimately had the edge in the 120 minutes, this game felt like it could’ve gone either way. Even when Egypt scored early to make it 1-0, it didn’t feel like Australia was out of it. They got their chances, became more and more threatening before creating the own goal from a set-piece that they only got because Egypt was on their heels. Patrick Beach made a huge save right before the end of 90 minutes to keep Australia alive and had to keep making saves to keep Australia in it as the Pharaohs wouldn’t let them have their turn with the ball. Then, the moment that will be remembered happened, Australia brought in penalty specialist Matthew Ryan for Patrick Beach; a move that has good precedent with Tim Krul back in 2014, but Australia blowing their penalties cost them”
