“Great game that wil forever be drenched in controversy. Whi le this game was really good on its own, the context is very important here. This World Cup was in South Africa and Ghana was the last African nation in the tournament so they became the darlings of the tournament with many rooting for them to become the first African team to make the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Uruguay was probably the lost aesthetically pleasing non-Spanish team of the tournament, led by Mr. Jabulani himself, aka, Diego Forlan. We got the iconic moment at the very end. Ghana looked like they were gonna win it in extra time, only for Luis Suarez to blatantly stop it with his hands. Today, that’s an automatic goal. Back then, Ghana had to earn it with a penalty. Asamoah Gyan, who had been incredible in the tournament, stepped up and, to Africa’s horror, hit the crossbar and Ghana lost on penalties. Suarez became hated by the entire continent of Africa to the point that he has said he can’t go back. ”
