“Uruguay clearly wanted a draw and Spain did not want to give it to them. Granted, saying they wanted to win may be a bit of a stretch. It was more so like “I’ll take it if you give it to me” and luckily for them Uruguay gave it to them when a bad mistake from their geriatric goalkeeper Muslera gave Spain the only goal of this game and therefore, the win. Aside from that, this game was slow and uneventful. Spain do win the group like we all expected, but it was more precarious than anyone expected. This game might as well be a microcosm of their run in the group stage. They got there, but it wasn’t as easy as it probably should’ve been. Meanwhile Uruguay, my god, they are in the dumps. Anyone paying attention knew they were far from their best, but what a disaster for them. Needed to win this game and they couldn’t get anything substantial until the literal final minutes. Just pathetic. Bielsa definitely gets fired and Uruguay has gotta figure out how to move on from last generation. ”
