The Kohl Center is the home arena of the Wisconsin Badgers men's and women's basketball and men's hockey teams in Madison. It is one of the premier multipurpose venues in the Big Ten, seating over 17,000 for basketball and around 15,500 for hockey. Named for donor and former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, the building has a reputation as one of the toughest road environments in the conference.
Since opening in 1998, the Kohl Center has been a fortress for Badgers basketball, hosting an NCAA women's volleyball national championship in its debut year, NCAA men's basketball and hockey regional championships in 2002 and 2008, and a 2008 campaign rally for presidential candidate Barack Obama before a crowd of over 17,000. The arena has helped Wisconsin build long home winning streaks and a reputation as one of the nation's toughest road environments.
