Bank of America Stadium sits in the heart of uptown Charlotte, an open-air bowl that is home to the Carolina Panthers and MLS side Charlotte FC. Two bronze panther statues guard the main gates, and the skyline view from the upper deck is one of the more striking backdrops in the NFL. The stadium also regularly hosts college football's Duke's Mayo Bowl and major touring concerts. On Panthers Sundays the stadium's black-and-blue crowd and pregame tailgates spill through the surrounding uptown streets.
The stadium opened in 1996 as Ericsson Stadium, with the Panthers beating Atlanta 29-6 in its first game, before Bank of America acquired the naming rights in 2004. It hosted the Panthers' 2003 NFC Championship win over Philadelphia that sent Carolina to Super Bowl XXXVIII, and later staged 2024 Copa America matches, including a semifinal, and CONCACAF Gold Cup games. The Rolling Stones played the venue's first non-sporting event in 1997, and it has since welcomed Beyonce, Luke Combs and other major touring acts. It remains the anchor of major-league sports in the Carolinas.
