Mackey Arena is the home of Purdue Boilermakers basketball in West Lafayette, Indiana. Its distinctive domed, bowl-shaped roof traps crowd noise and makes it one of the loudest, most intimidating arenas in college basketball. Steep lower-bowl seating puts fans close to the action on all sides. On big Big Ten nights, sellout crowds and the Paint Crew student section give it a genuine home-court advantage.
Opened in December 1967 and named for longtime athletic director Guy 'Red' Mackey, the arena's unusual acoustics have made it a feared road stop for Big Ten opponents for decades. It has hosted Purdue teams featuring stars from Rick Mount to Glenn Robinson to Zach Edey, including numerous ranked-opponent upsets. A series of renovations has modernized concourses and seating while preserving the original bowl and roofline. The arena remains one of the sport's enduring old-school venues.
