The Xfinity Center is the home of Maryland Terrapins men's and women's basketball in College Park, Maryland. Opened in 2002 as Comcast Center, it replaced the historic Cole Field House as the program's primary venue and quickly became one of the loudest arenas in the Big Ten. Its bowl-shaped seating bowl and Testudo-themed banners give it a strong home-court identity, and it regularly ranks among the nation's top draws in women's college basketball. On big nights against rivals, the student section and Maryland's storied pep band help create one of the region's signature college atmospheres.
The arena opened for the 2002-03 season, the same year Maryland won its first (and so far only) men's basketball national championship, giving the building an instant championship pedigree even though the title run itself culminated at Cole Field House the previous spring. Renamed Xfinity Center in 2014 under a new naming-rights deal, it has hosted the Terrapins' move from the ACC to the Big Ten in 2014 and remains one of the sport's premier women's basketball venues, regularly drawing crowds among the largest in the country. The arena has also hosted NCAA Tournament games and numerous concerts and campus events over its two-plus decades.
