American Airlines Center anchors Dallas's Victory Park neighborhood and serves as the shared home of the Stars and Mavericks, giving downtown Dallas back-to-back NHL and NBA game nights for much of the year. The building's dual-tenant design flips easily between hockey ice and hardwood, and its lower bowl brings fans close to the action for both sports. Mavericks games bring the blue-and-white "Mavs Man" energy and a loud, modern arena production, while Stars nights carry the green-clad intensity of Texas hockey country. Its Victory Park location surrounds it with restaurants and bars, making it a full night-out destination beyond just the game.

The arena opened on July 17, 2001 at a cost of roughly $420 million, moving both the Stars and Mavericks out of the aging Reunion Arena. The Stars had already won their only Stanley Cup in 1999 at Reunion Arena, but American Airlines Center has hosted the franchise's later deep playoff runs, including trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000 and 2020. The Mavericks' biggest moment under this roof came during their 2010-11 championship season, when the team played its home games here en route to the franchise's first NBA title. Since opening, the arena has also become one of Dallas's top concert and entertainment venues, hosting major tours and events year-round.
