After Neymar was selected to the Brazilian national team the immediate question was when can he play? Now two games into the tournament Brazil tied Morocco and beat Haiti without Neymar. As we know Neymar is not the player he was 12 years ago in the 2014 World Cup. He can’t move like he used to and he’s had a rough couple years. The question is the Brazil team has been playing pretty decent without him, does Brazil need to add Neymar at all? Is it worth possible throwing off the chemistry that these players have built the past couple months? We cant answer those questions but we can maybe answer the question of when he returns. From what Ive read I think he could potentially return against Scotland in their last match of the group stage. He will mostly come off the bench in that game if he is fit to play. One things certain about Neymar, he will give it his all. After tearing his ACL he said that the recovery was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do and he seriously considered retiring. But he wanted to be back out there with his teammates fighting. He only played 8 matches with Santos FC but he scored 4 goals and had 2 assists with a match average of 7.5. Also, he’s not that old he’s 34. He could definitely make a mark and continue to add to his legacy of great Brazilian footballers. Only time will tell if Neymar can show up and deliver.
As we all know, Brazil has never missed a world cup. Literally never. Throughout all 22 world cups they have won 5 times making them the country with the most titles in the world. The longest drought without a world cup win is 24 years from 1970-1994. Here's the thing, the last time Brazil won the world cup was 24 years ago. That tied their longest drought, in 1994 the year when they broke their former 24 year drought guess who hosted that tournament? That's right, the Untied states. And this year, 24 year drought, in the US, being the 6th ranked team in the world and a pot 1 seed in ground C. They also have a stacked roster here's some names: Alisson Becker, Vinicuis Junior, Casemiro, Gabriel, Marquinhos, Gleison Bremer, Neymar, Irgor Thiago. That's only a couple players. They have some of the biggest players from some of the biggest clubs in football and with Carlo Ancelotti as their manager. Obviously it's going to be difficult to compete for a title when there's teams like Spain, France, Germany, Argentina, and of course the USA all fighting for the trophy. We will find out if destiny will repeat itself and have Brazil back on top of the soccer world starting June 11th.
Brazil, the Seleção, are the most successful nation in World Cup history and the spiritual home of beautiful, joyful football — the jogo bonito. Synonymous with legends from Pelé to Ronaldo to Neymar, the five-time champions carry the weight of global expectation and the adoration of a soccer-mad nation in their iconic yellow shirts.
Brazil have won a record five World Cups, in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002, and are the only nation to have played in every edition of the tournament. The 1970 side, led by Pelé, is widely regarded as the greatest team ever assembled. Their history also holds deep scars: the 'Maracanazo' final loss to Uruguay in 1950 on home soil, and the shocking 7-1 semifinal defeat to Germany when hosting in 2014. Through triumph and heartbreak, Brazil remain football's most decorated and beloved power.
