The Little Magic Show
Less than 12 hours after former teammate Kylian Mbappé scored a brace and Earling Haaland scored 2 in his World Cup debut, Lionel Messi finds a way to outdo them both.
At the age of 38, Messi scored his first ever World Cup hat trick and the 55th in all of World Cup history. He also becomes, by far, the oldest player to ever score a hat trick at the World Cup, breaking the record CR7 set in 2018 (he was 33). Keep in mind, Messi turns 39 in about a week on June 24th.
To make this night even better, Lionel Messi is now tied with Miroslav Klose for the most goals at the World Cup ever. He passed Gerd Müller, Kylian Mbappé and Ronaldo Nazario in the span of 76 minutes. Messi also tied CR7’s record for the most World Cups with a goal, that being 5.
He is the GOAT.
