Weirdly Wild Starts

Joey Cantillo pitched a very weird game today. He gave up 7 walks while going 6 innings and not allowing an extra base hit. I already thought that was weird, but the Angels broadcast mentioned that it had happened at Angel Stadium twice before this, and it was 2 current broadcasters for the Angels. Mark Gubicza did this with the Royals back on September 8th of 1987, and Mark Langston did it in his first season as an Angel on May 9th, 1990. Gubie is the current color commentator for the Angels’ TV broadcast, while Langer does the same for the radio. While Cantillo (unfortunately) ended up with the no decision and Langston’s Angels were demolished in that game 9-1, Gubicza actually got the win. This was thanks to a 2 run shot from George Brett to start the game, and another hit from Brett to break the 2-2 tie.

Double Duty for Danny Jansen

Originally this game was supposed to be on June 26 2024. But due to Heavy Rain the game was Suspended at the top of the 2nd. Right before the game was suspended Danny Jansen was Batting for the Blue Jays. Exactly 2 Months later this game resumed. A month after the game the Sox traded to get Jansen. When the game resumed The Jays put in a Pinch Hitter to replace Jansen. Danny also played in that game for the Red Sox becoming the First MLB Player to play for 2 teams in 1 game. This is the 2 Year Anniversary of this game.

Wasted Mariners

The Brewers’ 22-0 victory is tied for the largest shutout victory in modern MLB history. The largest blowout in all of MLB history happened all the way back in 1883 in a 28-0 victory for the Providence Grays against Philadelphia. There have only been two other 22-0 blowout victories: One happened in 1975 when the Pittsburgh Pirates crushed the Chicago Cubs in a game where Pirate Reggie Stennett had 7 hits and 5 runs. The other happened in 2004 when the Cleveland Baseball Team destroyed the New York Yankees of all teams. Omar Vizquel had 6 hits and 4 RBIs. One other notable thing is Milwaukee is the first team in over 100 years to put up a 22-0 blowout in their home building. Both the Pirates and Cleveland did theirs as the away team.

An RBI for Everyone, Hold the K's

The 2026 Red Sox are the first team to have all 9 hitters in their starting lineup collect an RBI while also not striking out in a single game since an older iteration of the Red Sox did it against the St. Louis Browns on June 25th, 1949.
